The Dar Ben Safi is a restored house first built in the 14th C. as this part of Fez was developed. It consisted of 5 floors including a large terrace on the top. On each floor there were bedrooms and bathrooms designed to house all family members immediate and extended. For the six of us staying there it meant a choice of bathroom and bedroom, most of which were amazingly spacious with intricate zellij tile work. Most of us had our own favourite bathroom by the end of the week.

Fez was unusually wet while we were there. Most mornings were clear for wandering around the medina and in the afternoon the rain would start and continue for the night. Sometimes there would be a leak that would drip past the tarping into the courtyard. A plant was placed at the main drip spot but the sound resonated through the entire house.
